AGENTS.md
What is AGENTS.md?
AGENTS.md is an open format for standing instructions to AI coding agents: a markdown file in a project that tells any agent how to work on it, like a README written for agents.
Why it matters
It gives agents one predictable place to find a team’s commands, conventions and rules, so nobody has to re-explain them in every session. The same idea, written instructions that an agent reads first, applies to work beyond code.
Example
A project’s AGENTS.md lists its test commands, its coding conventions and the security rules every change must follow. Coding agents read it before they start.
