MCP (Model Context Protocol)
What is MCP?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI assistants and agents connect to tools and data sources, such as Slack, Google Drive or a CRM, through one common interface. Anthropic introduced it in November 2024.
Also called: Model Context Protocol
Why it matters
MCP lets agents work inside the systems a company already uses instead of in a separate tool, and lets one connection serve many AI applications.
Example
An agent uses one MCP connection to read a Salesforce opportunity and another to post a summary in a Slack channel.
