Conformance gap
What is a conformance gap?
The conformance gap is the difference between how a process is documented, in an SOP or a process map, and how the work actually runs.
Why it matters
An agent built for the documented process breaks on the work nobody wrote down, such as exceptions, workarounds and unwritten rules. Measuring the gap before you build shows how much of the real work a design has to handle.
Example
Varick Agents reports a typical gap of 30% or more between the written procedure and the real work, and over 70% in exception-heavy work such as accounts-payable exceptions.
