AI acceptable use policy

What is an AI acceptable use policy?

An AI acceptable use policy sets out which AI tools people may use for work, what data each tool may handle, and how to ask for a new tool to be approved.

Also called: AI use policy, AI tool policy

Why it matters

Without one, people guess. A short, clear policy with a fast way to request new tools makes the safe choice the easy one, and keeps the company’s list of AI tools current.

Example

A company’s two-page policy lists 14 approved AI tools, 2 under review and 1 that isn’t allowed, says customer data may go only into tools approved for it, and names who answers requests for new tools.
