Bring your own AI (BYOAI)
What is BYOAI (bring your own AI)?
Bring your own AI (BYOAI) is when people use AI tools at work that their employer didn’t provide, such as a personal chatbot account or a browser extension they installed themselves.
Also called: BYOAI
Why it matters
It shows where people want AI help before the company offers it. BYOAI isn’t always against the rules, but when the company doesn’t know about it, it becomes shadow AI.
Example
A recruiter pays for a personal AI writing tool to draft job posts, because the approved assistant hasn’t reached her team yet.
