Progressive disclosure

What is progressive disclosure?

Progressive disclosure is the way AI assistants load skills in stages: first only each skill’s name and description, then the full instructions when a task matches, and supporting files or scripts only when the instructions call for them.

Why it matters

It lets one assistant carry many skills without filling its context with instructions it doesn’t need. It also explains why a skill’s description matters so much: it is how the AI decides whether to open the skill at all.

Example

An assistant with 30 skills keeps only their names and descriptions in view. Asked to reconcile last week’s deals, it opens the reconciliation skill, and reads the booking-rules file only when it meets a multi-currency deal.
