Straight-through processing

What is straight-through processing?

Straight-through processing is when a case, such as an invoice or an order, goes from start to finish without manual handling or exceptions. Its rate is a key measure of process efficiency.

Also called: STP, Straight-through rate

Why it matters

Raising the straight-through rate often saves more than speeding up individual steps, because every exception creates rework and waiting.

Example

Varick Agents described raising one client’s share of invoices that go straight through from 18% to 87%.
