**Short answer.** Stay with Celonis Task Mining if you already run Celonis process mining, or you need the most documented consent and redaction controls. Look elsewhere if you do not own the platform: Celonis’s own docs call Task Mining a premium product with an additional licensing fee. Mimica, Microsoft, UiPath, Skan AI, KYP.ai and Nolli each fit one situation below.

## Quick picks

- **Stay: Celonis Task Mining.** You run Celonis process mining already, or your legal team wants the most documented consent and redaction controls. Budget the add-on fee.
- **No Celonis stack: Mimica.** Recording, process maps and agents from one vendor, with employee pause and app exclusions. Quote only, and aimed at large teams.
- **Microsoft shop: Microsoft Power Automate.** The only task mining price published, per user. Privacy cleanup is manual and capacity is small.
- **Automate next: UiPath Task Mining.** Findings turn into workflows on the same platform. Settle who tells employees, and the model-check clause, first.

## Key takeaways

1. Celonis’s own docs call Task Mining a premium Celonis Platform product with an additional licensing fee, so you are choosing a platform as well as a recorder.
2. Stay if you already run Celonis process mining. Every other situation in these notes points somewhere else.
3. Run the same two-week bake-off on two tools, and read the raw captures before you read any dashboard.

Short version. Celonis Task Mining is a good product with a clear home: a company that already runs Celonis. If that is you, stay. If it is not, work out which situation below is yours and test the tool named there.

We read the vendors’ public pages on October 14, 2026 and the Celonis Task Mining doc page on October 16. We ran none of the products. For the full eight-tool ranking, see best task mining software in 2026. For what task mining cannot see, see process mining vs task mining vs AI discovery.

## Stay or go

Three reasons to compare, each from Celonis’s own pages. None of them is a flaw.

1. **It costs extra.** The Celonis docs say Task Mining is a premium Celonis Platform product and is subject to an additional licensing fee. They give no price and send you to your account team. Those docs have asked for a Celonis login in the past, and we read a cached copy on October 16, 2026. Do this today: Ask for the add-on price in writing before the demo, with the platform price beside it.
2. **It lives inside the platform.** The client runs on each user’s machine. The data goes to the Celonis Platform and shows in its Workforce Productivity app. The same doc page builds its example from Process Management, Process Adherence Manager and Action Flows, which are other Celonis products. Do this today: Ask whether you can buy Task Mining without the rest, and what you lose.
3. **It records a lot.** It captures interactions with applications and websites at a granular level, including typed text, and optionally screenshots. Celonis’s privacy docs tell you to talk to legal, and to worker councils or trade unions, before you switch it on. The same docs say users consent and can turn capture off at any time. Do this today: Take the consent screen to your legal team before you take any tool to your CFO.

Review sites list more complaints. We did not read them at the source, so we do not repeat them.

**Stay with Celonis if all of these hold**

- [ ] You already run Celonis process mining, and you want desktop work beside your event-log data.
- [ ] Your legal team wants the most documented controls: a consent screen, pause rights, allow and deny lists, and redaction at capture, all per Celonis’s docs.
- [ ] The add-on fee is in budget.
- [ ] IT can install the client on the machines of the people you will record. Ask Celonis for the current system requirements.

## You do not run Celonis process mining

You want task mining and you do not own the platform around it. Test a vendor whose product is the recorder.

### 1. Mimica

Situation: no Celonis stack, a large team, and a wish to go from recording to agents with one vendor. Records clicks, keystrokes and actions, maps the processes, then builds agents to run them. Its page never says “task mining”, but the capture step works the same way. The page mentions no separate process mining platform.

Strengths: Does better than Celonis on scope of purchase: one product from recording to agents, with no platform around it.; Employees start, pause or stop recordings. You can exclude apps or websites in advance. It detects and anonymizes personally identifiable information..

Limits: Does worse on proof and price: we found no price, and its claim of insights in one week and agents in 24 hours is unchecked.; Aimed at large enterprises in finance, support, operations, IT and shared services. A small team may sit below its range..

Pricing: Not published.

Vendor page: https://mimica.ai/

> **Ask in the demo** List every field you capture: clicks, typed text, screenshots, window titles, URLs. Show a raw capture of a card number. Who tells employees, and what do they see? Give me one reference at my size.

## You are a Microsoft shop

You run Power Platform, you want to see a price before you talk to sales, and your first project is small.

### 1. Microsoft Power Automate (process mining and task mining)

Situation: a Microsoft shop that wants a published price and a small first project. Process mining reads event logs from your systems of record. Task mining is built around recordings that people make of a process and upload for analysis.

Strengths: Does better than Celonis on price you can see: Power Automate Premium is per user and includes process and task mining with 50 MB of data stored, per Microsoft’s pricing page. Microsoft says the final price appears at checkout.; An “Automate activities” button creates a draft Power Automate flow for steps done in apps such as Outlook or Excel, per Microsoft’s tutorial..

Limits: Does worse on privacy by default: Microsoft’s docs tell you to delete screenshots and edit sensitive text in a recording before you analyze it.; People choose what to record, so you see the processes someone picked. Capacity is small: 50 MB of process mining per user license, up to 100 GB per tenant..

Pricing: Published on Microsoft’s pricing page (Premium, per user).

Vendor page: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-automate/process-advisor-overview

> **Ask in the demo** Who reviews each recording for names and card numbers before analysis, and how long does that take at 50 recordings? What happens when a team outgrows 50 MB? Does the seat price cover everyone who records, or only the analyst?

## You want to automate next

The finding is only worth something if a bot or a workflow follows. Pick the tool where that step lives.

### 1. UiPath Task Mining

Situation: you plan to automate on UiPath, and want discovery and automation on one platform. One half of UiPath Process Intelligence, next to Process Mining. A recorder on each user’s machine captures screenshots and metadata, and UiPath merges them into traces of the process.

Strengths: Does better than Celonis on the route to automation: findings convert into automated workflows on the same platform. UiPath says you can use process intelligence without committing to its automation.; Built-in redaction of personally identifiable information, role-based access, audit trails, and a recorder people can pause..

Limits: Does worse on consent: UiPath says the customer is the controller and must notify employees, and that it has no technical way to collect their consent.; Recording runs continuously, and UiPath also uses the data to check that its machine learning works. Ask whether your contract lets you turn that off..

Pricing: Not published for Task Mining. The UiPath pricing page lists Standard and Enterprise plans as contact sales.

Vendor page: https://www.uipath.com/product/task-mining

> **Ask in the demo** Put the model-check question in writing: can we opt out? Who sends the employee notice, and with what words? If we decide not to automate on UiPath, what can we export from the process map?

## Your work lives in many apps and teams

Mainframe screens, virtual desktops, a dozen web tools. A recorder that handles one app family leaves holes. These two say they reach further. Both claims are theirs, not ours.

### 1. Skan AI

Situation: a regulated enterprise with legacy desktops and virtual desktops. Sells a “Context Graph of Work” platform. It says it captures real workflows continuously, with no integration projects, across mainframe, legacy desktop, VDI, web and office tools.

Strengths: Does better than Celonis on stated reach: it names mainframe, legacy desktop and VDI work.; Says raw screens and records never leave the customer’s perimeter, and that it keeps audit logs of every action and agent decision..

Limits: Does worse on detail: the home page does not name the capture technique or say how personal data is masked.; Quotes customer results with no method or sample size, so we do not repeat them..

Pricing: Quote only.

Vendor page: https://www.skan.ai/

### 2. KYP.ai

Situation: many apps, and a wish for admin-set detail levels or a self-hosted server. Says it combines process mining and task mining, with no complex ERP integrations. Its KYP Connect App can collect data from any application on the user’s machine.

Strengths: Does better than Celonis on starting small: by default the app collects basic data about running applications and no personal data, and admins raise the detail level.; Applications or views can be marked private, and nothing is collected from them. Its docs list self-hosted server installation..

Limits: Does worse on clarity: the docs we read do not say whether the app takes screenshots or keystrokes, or how anonymization works.; Its docs say data may be processed in the United States and by third parties when accessed from outside the agreed locations..

Pricing: Not published on the pages we read.

Vendor page: https://docs.kyp.ai/docs/what-is-kypai-1

> **Ask in the demo** Skan AI: name the capture technique, and show what is masked. Put the perimeter claim in the contract. KYP.ai: what does the app record at its highest detail level, and where does our data go when someone logs in from abroad?

## You want a map of where AI belongs

Different question. You do not need a recorder for one process. You need to know which steps, in which teams, are worth giving to AI. That is AI discovery, and it is the question in our guide.

### 1. Nolli (made by Nolli)

Situation: you want to find where AI belongs across teams, from screen, email and AI agent logs. Nolli is AI discovery, not a task mining suite. It learns how your company works from people’s work on company devices, from the email and calendar your company connects, and from the logs of AI agents people already use. Then it ranks where AI belongs and what each change is worth. We make it, so weigh this entry accordingly.

Strengths: Does better than Celonis on spread: email, calendar and AI agent logs sit beside what happens on screen, so it can show who works with whom and what people already hand to AI.; Goes past the report: it sorts steps, prices opportunities and shares skills, SOPs and agents. Your company chooses what it learns from, and your admin can see, correct, export or delete what it learned..

Limits: Does worse on exact counts: it is not an ERP event-log process mining suite. For case counts and timestamps from your systems, use process mining.; No public price, and less technical detail on its pages than the older vendors. Ask for a security walkthrough..

Pricing: No public price. Request a demo.

Vendor page: https://withnolli.com/platform/discover

> **Ask in the demo** Ask us what Nolli learns from on your devices and who decides. Ask for the security walkthrough. Ask to see the evidence behind one finding, and what the finding cannot tell you.

## Side by side

Two pictures. The grid shows what each vendor’s page says about controls, price and what happens next. The quadrant shows how far each one reaches, and how far its findings travel toward a built automation.

**Controls, price and next step, Celonis against the six** (none, partly or fully)

| | Celonis | UiPath | Mimica | Microsoft | Skan AI | KYP.ai | Nolli |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Consent screen at install | fully | none | partly | partly | none | none | none |
| Person can pause the recording | fully | fully | fully | none | none | none | none |
| Redaction at capture | fully | fully | fully | none | none | none | partly |
| Apps or sites can be excluded | fully | none | fully | none | none | fully | partly |
| Public task mining price | none | none | none | fully | none | none | none |
| Route from findings to automation | fully | fully | fully | fully | partly | partly | fully |
| Reads system event logs | fully | fully | none | fully | none | partly | none |

From each vendor’s public pages, read October 14, 2026, and the Celonis doc page, read October 16. Full: the page says it plainly. Half: it says part of it (Mimica emails an invitation to install; Nolli removes keys, card and ID numbers before any AI model sees them). Empty: we found nothing, which does not prove the tool lacks the feature. Celonis details come from docs that may ask for a login. Celonis’s public price is empty because it sends you to your account team.

**How far each tool reaches, and how far its findings travel** (x: How much of the work it can see (one platform to many apps, mail, agents), 0 to 100; y: How far findings travel toward a built automation, 0 to 100; corners: top-left Narrow view, close to automation, top-right Wide view, close to automation, bottom-left Narrow view, a report only, bottom-right Wide view, a report only)

- Celonis: x 45, y 55
- Microsoft: x 30, y 72
- UiPath: x 55, y 88
- Mimica: x 62, y 82
- KYP.ai: x 68, y 38
- Skan AI: x 85, y 58
- Nolli: x 92, y 66

Our reading of the public pages we read, not a measurement. Left to right: from one platform or recordings people choose to make, to continuous capture across many apps, email or agent logs. Bottom to top: from a report, to a draft flow, workflow, agent or skill. The order of the dots matters more than the exact spot. Nolli is ours, and we placed it by the same rule as the rest.

## Run the bake-off

Do not choose from a demo. Test two tools on the same process, with the same people, and the same notice. No vendor publishes a bake-off length, so the plan below is our suggestion.

**A two-week bake-off**

- **Days 1 to 2, Fix the test.** Pick one process and one team of five to ten people. Write the decision the data must inform. Draft the notice employees will read.
- **Days 3 to 7, Tool A records.** Send the notice. Install on the team. Show them what is captured and how to pause it.
- **Days 8 to 12, Tool B records.** Same process, same people, same notice. Change nothing else, or you will be comparing weeks.
- **Day 13, Read the raw captures.** Open ten captures from each tool. Look for names, card numbers and passwords that got through.
- **Day 14, Decide.** Name one automation candidate with an owner, or stop. Stopping is a result.

**Before you sign**

1. **Name the question**: One decision the data must inform
2. **Get the price**: Platform and add-on, in writing
3. **Write the notice**: Who tells employees, and when
4. **Run the bake-off**: Two tools, one process
5. **Read raw captures**: Before any dashboard
6. **Sign or stop**: One owner

Then loop back: Next process

Our checklist for switching or staying. It applies to Celonis too.

> **Rules differ by country** Employment and privacy law varies, and Celonis says so in its own docs. Take your consent screen and notice to your legal team and, if you have one, your worker council. This post is not legal advice.

## Where Nolli fits, and where it does not

Nolli is AI discovery. It learns how your company works from people’s work on company devices, from the email and calendar you connect, and from the logs of the AI agents your people use, then shows where AI belongs and what it is worth. Your IT team installs it. Your company decides what it may learn from. It is not an ERP event-log process mining suite, and it has no public price. If you already run Celonis process mining, stay with it for case counts and add Nolli for the work between systems. Request a demo to see it on your own work.

## Questions people ask

**What are the best alternatives to Celonis Task Mining?**

It depends on the situation. Mimica fits a large team with no Celonis stack. Microsoft Power Automate fits a Microsoft shop that wants a published price. UiPath fits teams that will automate next. Skan AI and KYP.ai are for work spread across many apps. Nolli is for finding where AI belongs.

**Why do people look for alternatives to Celonis Task Mining?**

Celonis’s docs say Task Mining is a premium Celonis Platform product with an additional licensing fee, and its data lands in the Celonis Platform. If you do not run the platform, you are paying for a platform product to get a recorder.

**When should I stay with Celonis Task Mining?**

Stay if you already run Celonis process mining, if your legal team wants the most documented consent and redaction controls, and if the add-on fee is in budget.

**Does Celonis Task Mining work without Celonis process mining?**

Its docs describe it as a product of the Celonis Platform, with its own licensing fee. Ask Celonis in writing whether you can buy it alone and what you lose without the rest of the platform.

**Which task mining tool publishes a price?**

Of the tools here, only Microsoft publishes one. Power Automate Premium is per user and includes process and task mining with 50 MB of data stored. Celonis, UiPath, Mimica and Skan AI send you to sales, and KYP.ai’s pages show none.
